Setting Sketches
When writing a series, one challenge is matching the setting and specifics throughout each book. One way I track the setting is through my awesome (note: sarcasm) sketches.

I needed to sketch the middle school based on my middle school from almost 30 years ago. The beauty of my fictional city means I can rearrange the buildings, courtyards, lunch tables, etc. as needed. While the four two-story bright white stucco buildings are on the first half of campus, the outdoor cafeteria (which is just a bunch of picnic tables grouped together) is still central to campus, thanks to the basketball/volleyball courts, PE locker rooms, and additional buildings. The MU/Cave’s location is important for the dance scenes in each book.
Once I knew where my characters needed to walk for passing periods, I moved on to the key classroom: science. SM= Sean, KB = Kayla, and CC = Courtney.
Happy Book Birthday to Kayla’s Quest!
And a Happy TGIF to you!
